How To Know When To Change Your Locks

Many of us don’t change our looks until something happens, such as losing a key, but there are actually many reasons for which you should change your locks to ensure you and your belongings are safe.

You Want To Protect Your Car / Garage

An old or simple garage lock should be cause for concern, as it will leave your valuables vulnerable to theft. If your garage is connected to your home, this should be a top priority as it also lessens the security of your home. You could experience car theft and burglary simultaneously.

If you do ever experience attempted car theft, be sure to also replace the car locks for maximum security and peace of mind.

You’re Moving

If you’re moving into a new home, always be sure to change the locks as you never know how many copies the previous homeowner made and who may still have a key. For the safety of you and your family, this should be a number one priority and ideally should be done prior to moving in.

The same rule applies to any outhouse/shed you have inherited with the property and plan to keep.

Your Lock is Old or Struggling

Are your locks old or hard to open? It’s time to change your locks! Faulty mechanisms can easily be opened by burglars. Moreover, a faulty mechanism could even see you being locked out of your own home. Play it safe and change the locks.

You’ve Experienced a Break-In

This may seem obvious, but oftentimes the locks get forgotten about whilst dealing with the emotional side of things along with the replacement of any stolen items. It is possible that your burglar made or had a copy of your keys, and if not it is highly likely that the lock has been damaged during the break-in attempt which compromises their strength. If you have been a victim, it may be worth asking Safelock locksmiths or Curley locks about a possible replacement.

Someone Moved Out

Whether an old roommate or a separation/divorce, it’s important to change the locks after someone moves out of the home so that they cannot let themselves back in.

You Want An Easy Life

If you have different keys for every door in the house, you may wish to change your locks for ease and have just one key that opens them all. After all, nobody likes rummaging through their keys trying to remember which is for which door. You may even want to opt for a keyless entry system if you’re particularly into gadgets.
